Luzerne County Community College recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Luzerne County Community College M&T Bank Educational Center in Pittston.

The facility is the eighth LCCC campus in northeastern Pennsylvania and is projected to bring approximately 200 students per day to the downtown area in the first year. It will include classrooms, a student lounge, seven administrative offices, and outside spaces for the students to utilize.

“Education is the cornerstone to every community and we are proud to have Luzerne County Community College as our educational partner,” Pittston Mayor Mike Lombardo said. “The facility represents a pathway to opportunities created by continuing education. Its location provides a local opportunity for aspiring students in the Greater Pittston Area.”

The Pittston City Land Revitalization Corporation provided $1.7 million in funding for the project, and the Neighborhood Assistance Program through the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) provided $374,000. M&T Bank donated the 10,000-square foot building.

“Luzerne County Community College continues to demonstrate its commitment to being one of Pennsylvania’s most accessible institutions of higher learning with the opening of its new M&T Bank Educational Center in the City of Pittston,” Sen. John Yudichak (D-Luzerne/Carbon Counties) said. “Pittston marks another milestone in its revitalization efforts with LCCC’s commitment to the downtown adding access to a college education to the growing assets of a thriving city.”
