AT&T highlights $110 million in investments in Pittsburgh networks

AT&T invested more than $110 million in its wireless and wired networks in the Pittsburgh area from 2015 to 2017 to boost coverage for residents and businesses as well as improve critical services to support public safety and first responders, the company said recently.

In 2017, the company made more than 500 wireless network upgrades in the Pittsburgh area, including new cell sites and additional network capacity.

“Our customers expect to have access at any moment, from almost any device – almost anywhere,” J. Michael Schweder, president of AT&T Mid Atlantic, said. “And we’re investing heavily to deliver faster, more reliable, highly secure connectivity in order to meet – and exceed – those expectations for Pittsburgh-area residents, businesses, and visitors.”

AT&T also noted that the investments would support expanding 5G Evolution technology in Pittsburgh, which the company launched in January. The technology boosts the existing LTE network and primes it for the future of connectivity.

The FirstNet public-private partnership, which aims to strengthen and modernize public safety communications capabilities. AT&T said its investments would help improve public safety’s network.
