Rep. Phillips-Hill named to FCC advisory committee

State Rep. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York Township) recently was named to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Intergovernmental Advisory Committee.

The committee’s purpose is to assist the FCC on telecommunications issues affecting local, state and Tribal governments and produce specific deliverables that will further FCC’s mission and objectives.

Committee members are elected officials of municipal, county, state, and Tribal governments. In January, an executive order expanded the committee from 15 to 30 members.

Tasks include gathering data and information, aiding the FCC on outreach when needed, guiding the FCC, and performing analyses the FCC deems necessary to respond to questions or matters.

“Appointment to the committee is a tremendous opportunity to establish relationships with colleagues and exchange information with them,” Phillips-Hill said. “I can bring to the table the four-bill package of broadband internet legislation which I co-authored, share it with others and maybe even find ways to improve its chances of becoming law.”

Appointments to the committee are made through nomination. Phillips-Hill, who will serve through March 29, is one of 18 new members announced by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai. She is the committee’s only member from Pennsylvania.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey was named committee chairman, replacing Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy.
