GIANT Food Stores to build Lancaster e-commerce hub

GIANT Food Stores recently announced it would invest $22 million creating an e-commerce hub in Lancaster County.

The company also announced that it would remodel four stores, open a Lititz fuel station, and lower prices up to 35 percent on staple items.

The 38,000-square-foot hub allows customers to order groceries online then pick up orders curbside. GIANT partners with online grocery partner Peapod and the facility will enable the retailer to serve up to 40 percent more shoppers.

“We’re seeing double-digit growth in online ordering and grocery delivery,” GIANT President Nicholas Bertram said. “We are rededicating ourselves to the Lancaster market, and we want this cutting-edge facility to be unique – something the Northeast neighborhood will be proud of while we meet this demand. We’re excited because the e-commerce hub will allow us to increase capacity quickly.”

Grocery shopping is changing, Bertram said, and the hub allows customers to shop how they want, when they want, and where they want. Innovation is key to GIANT’s business strategy, he said.

The e-commerce hub is expected to create approximately 150 jobs and is GIANT’s fifth facility in Pennsylvania with Peapod.

The remodeled stores will be located in Lancaster and Lititz and will feature LED lighting and expanded product selection.
