North Allegheny schools win regional National Science Bowl

North Allegheny Senior High School and North Allegheny School District’s Marshall Middle School Team 1 were the top high school and middle school at the 29th annual Western Pennsylvania Regional Science Bowl (WPASB).

The schools competed against 39 other high school and 31 other middle school teams statewide.

The competition was sponsored by the National Energy Technology Laboratory that coordinates regional Science Bowl events in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The events are part of the organization’s STEM Education and Outreach program.

Teams participated in quiz-style events on science and math in round-robin and double-elimination competition rounds.

The winners will represent western Pennsylvania at the National Science Bowl April 30-May 4 in Washington, D.C. Winning teams will receive trophies, funds for their schools, and other awards.

The second-place winners at the WPASB were Sewickley Academy Senior School and North Allegheny School District’s Carson Middle School.

Third place was awarded to Franklin Regional High School and Fox Chapel Area School District’s Dorseyville Middle School.

Fourth place was awarded to Upper St. Clair High School and North Allegheny School District’s Ingomar Middle School.

The competition was held Feb. 22 for high school students and Feb. 29 for middle school students at the Community College of Allegheny County South Campus in West Mifflin.
