Global pharmaceutical wholesale distributor AmerisourceBergen is expanding its national headquarters, choosing Pennsylvania because of its location, business climate, and workforce.
The plan is to combine the Chesterbrook and Conshohocken offices into a new, 400,000-square-foot facility in Conshohocken that serves as headquarters. The move will cost at least $29.5 million and will create more than 550 jobs over the next five years.
AmerisourceBergen received an $8 million grant from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program to help with construction costs and $1,659,000 in job creation tax credits from the Department of Community and Economic Development.
“This project is so significant not just because one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical distributors is expanding its headquarters here, but because of the magnitude of that expansion,” Gov. Tom Wolf said. “This expansion will create more than 550 jobs in IT, management, accounting, and human resources that will provide family-sustaining wages to so many workers in the region and bring a significant boost to the regional economy. Opportunities like this are rare, so to have AmerisourceBergen commit to Pennsylvania for its future growth is truly exciting news.”
AmerisourceBergen formed following the 2001 merger of AmeriSource Health Corp. and Bergen Brunswig Corp. It has offices in more than 150 locations worldwide.
