The York Plan 2.0 Innovation District, a community revitalization and economic development project in York County, recently was awarded $6 million through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

The district is part of a larger project to revitalize a 240,000 square-foot area in the northwest corner of York into an arts, education, history, technology, and manufacturing district.

The funds will be used to renovate buildings that will house offices, prototype design workshops, and lab space for robotic device development and assembly.

The grant is matching funding for $6 million in private investment.

“I have worked hard to ensure that when state government is investing in our local communities, we are directing our resources towards projects that improve the lives of our citizens, our students, and our seniors,” Gov. Tom Wolf said. “And I have worked to make sure that we are using our resources to bring the greatest bang for the buck for our private businesses, who in turn provide jobs and opportunities for our citizens.”

Wolf was joined for the announcement by John McElligott, CEO of The Fortress Initiative and York Exponential, the group spearheading the York Plan 2.0, and York Mayor Michael Helfrich.

The groundbreaking will be held before 2019.
