Virginia-based BWX Technologies, a defense and space manufacturing company, recently completed its purchase of York-based Precision Components Group, a complex, heavy-walled and heat-transfer components manufacturer. The purchase also includes subsidiaries Precision Custom Components and DC Fabricators.

“Growing demand for reliable, carbon-free energy underscores the urgent need to strengthen the U.S. nuclear manufacturing base,” John MacQuarrie, BWX president for commercial operations, said. “By expanding our manufacturing capabilities, we can better support reactor life-extension programs, new build activity and the long-term energy reliability our communities depend on.”

The purchase expands BWX’s heavy-manufacturing footprint and its ability to deliver U.S.-made nuclear components to the commercial sector. It also adds more than 500,000-square-feet of heavy-manufacturing capacity, including ASME-certified component fabrication, heat exchangers, heavy weldments, large-envelope machining, and pressure vessels.

Precision’s more than 450 employees become part of BWX’s Commercial Operations segment. Precision will continue to operate at its facility in York as well as its Florence, N.J., facility and
will continue supporting its existing scope of work including providing components and services for Electric Boat, Bechtel Plant Machinery, and other U.S. Navy programs.

BWX Technologies operates 17 manufacturing facilities globally and employs approximately 10,000 people. It provides nuclear solutions for clean energy, environmental restoration, global security, nuclear medicine, and space exploration.
