Officials at the Homer City Energy Campus said the project has reached a milestone of more than 1,000 workers now active on the construction site.
The projects, a joint venture between Homer City Redevelopment, LLC and Kiewit Power Constructors Co., said the milestone underscores the scale of investment and workforce the project, the largest natural gas-powered energy facility currently under construction in the U.S., has on Indiana County, PA.
“Reaching 1,000 workers on site is far more than a number,” said Corey Hessen, CEO of HCR. “It represents real families, real paychecks, and a real commitment to this community. Indiana County is building the future of American energy, and we are doing it with the men and women who live here and across the region.”
Officials said the site’s workforce includes skilled contractors and tradespeople from across the building and construction trades, as well as workers across multiple disciplines, all working toward the goal of having the energy campus delivering power in early 2028.
At full construction, the project is expected to support more than 10,000 direct on-site construction jobs, and another 1,000 permanent positions in technology, operations and energy infrastructure.
“Our members are proud to be building the Homer City Energy Campus. These are the kind of good-paying, family-sustaining jobs that our trades have delivered for generations. This project proves that when you invest in American workers and American energy, everybody wins,” Shawn Steffee, Business Agent of Boilermakers Local 154 and President of the South-Central Building Trades said.
