Ohio-based Dayton Freight, a private less-than-truckload (LTL) freight carrier, recently purchased 31.5 acres of the I-70 Industrial Park in Westmoreland County.

The company employs more than 6,000 people and has 73 locations in 15 states. This will be the company’s third Pennsylvania facility. The other locations are in McKees Rocks and Bedford.

Dayton Freight plans to build a 36,000-square-foot facility that will feature a 30,000-square-foot shipping cross-dock and 6,000 square feet of office space. It will employ 50 workers. Construction is expected to begin in the spring and finish in early 2027.

“We’re proud to be approaching our 45th year in business, with 30 of those years rooted right here in Pennsylvania,” Dayton Freight COO Anthony Rocco said. “Our growth across the Midwest has been a key part of our success, and this new location marks an exciting extension of that journey. This facility will play a critical role in strengthening our presence in Western Pennsylvania and enhancing direct service to major markets across Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and beyond.”

I-70 Industrial Park houses eight companies and has more than 1 million square feet of building space on nearly 200 developed acres. Dayton Freight selected the location because it is less than a mile from I-70’s Smithton interchange.
