Report finds tourism in Pennsylvania generated $83.9B, supported over 514K jobs in 2024

Pennsylvania’s tourism industry generated $83.9 billion in economic impact, supported 514,261 jobs, and contributed $5 billion in state and local taxes in 2024, according to a recent Pennsylvania Tourism Office report.

From 2023 to 2024, the tourism industry grew from $76 billion to nearly $84 billion and created an additional 30,000 jobs.

“With Gov. Josh Shapiro’s focus on reinvesting in tourism and launching the Great American Getaway last year, Pennsylvania has seen an impressive increase in economic impact from this vital industry,” Anne Ryan, deputy secretary for tourism, said. “The data showcased in this report indicates that Pennsylvania is outpacing the national average for growth in the tourism sector. The Shapiro Administration continues to recognize the crucial role that tourism plays in Pennsylvania’s economy as we look ahead to an exciting year in 2026.”

In 2024, 201.6 million people visited Pennsylvania, and visitors spent $49.9 billion. International visitors increased to 4.2 percent of tourism demand.

The sectors with the most spending growth were recreation, increasing 6.4 percent year-over-year, and food and beverage, growing 5.5 percent.

Overnight visitors grew 2 percent to more than 71 million and spending grew $1.1 billion to $30.4 billion. The average visitor spent $428 per person.
