Mechanicsburg-based Pennsylvania American Water, the state’s largest regulated water utility, recently completed its $5 million purchase of East Dunkard Water Authority’s (EDWA) water system assets.
The system serves approximately 1,600 customer connections in Greene County. Pennsylvania American Water has managed and operated the EDWA system since 2023 when the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) issued an emergency order.
Pennsylvania American Water plans to invest more than $16.1 million over the next five years in EDWA system improvements for main restorations and replacements, treatment plant upgrades, control systems enhancements, and technology. The company already has invested nearly $2 million in the system.
“Like many of the water systems we acquire across Pennsylvania, the East Dunkard Water Authority was in poor condition and largely out of compliance with drinking water regulations,” Justin Ladner, Pennsylvania American Water president, said. “As the PUC-ordered receiver, our team significantly improved water quality and service for the authority’s customers. Today, we welcome them as our own customers, and we look forward to continuing to provide safe, clean and reliable water service by delivering on our technical expertise and extensive water experience.”
Pennsylvania American Water provides approximately 2.4 million people with water and wastewater services. It is a American Water subsidiary.
