Bayer celebrated the grand opening of the $44 million expansion to its Myerstown facility last week.
The 70,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will enhance the company’s production capabilities while embracing automation and investing in workforce development, officials said. The Myerstown facility has been part of Bayer’s operations for 75 years, officials said, and has grown to become the largest manufacturing site in the company’s Consumer Health network producing Bayer Aspirin, Aleve, Claritin, One A Day multivitamins, Alka Seltzer Plus, Midol and more.
“Our trusted brands have been helping people live healthier lives for generations,” Dave Tomasi, president of Bayer’s Consumer Health division in North America, said. “The Myerstown annex will enable us to bring science-backed products to market with more speed and reliability than ever before. The expanded facility will further strengthen our commitment to providing safe, effective and high-quality self-care solutions that our consumers and customers can depend on.”
Officials said the new space is designed to move products more efficiently with eight new packaging line and automated systems. The expansion will allow the company to respond more quickly to the needs of its customers, officials said. The company said it is also expanding its ability to digitally upskill its workforce to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge needed to navigate modern manufacturing.
“We recognize that the key to sustainable growth lies in our people. That’s why we will enable our workforce with the skills needed to adapt to new technologies so they can excel in their careers,” Divakar Amin, vice president & site manager of the Myerstown facility, said. “We are proud to contribute to the local economy and foster a vibrant workforce made up of many Myerstown locals. Together, we are building a brighter future for Bayer and the communities we serve.”
