Spring Grove-based Pixelle Specialty Solutions, a specialty papers manufacturer, recently announced the closure of its Chillicothe, Ohio, paper mill has been delayed until the end of the year.
“Pausing the closure provides us additional time to evaluate what’s possible,” Ross Bushnell, Pixelle Specialty Solutions president and CEO, said. “This decision reflects a public-private partnership rooted in our shared belief that this facility, and the people who power it, deserve every opportunity to be part of something sustainable and strong moving forward.”
The decision follows meeting with leaders at the federal, state, and local levels and is based on a framework agreed upon by the company, H.I.G. Capital, and government officials.
Over the course of the next several months, the company will provide employees, customers, and partners regular with updates regarding the process and will coordinate with its ownership group, government partners, and community leadership to determine the next steps and find a mutually agreed solution.
“We are grateful to leaders at the city, county, state, and federal levels who came together to help us explore sustainable options for our team, this facility, and the Chillicothe community,” Bushnell said.
U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) said he will establish a permanent Senate office in Chillicothe to support the mill’s future and monitor progress.
