Wayne-based AMG Critical Materials N.V., a critical materials and related process technologies provider, plans to invest $15 million to build a aluminothermic production facility to manufacture chrome metal in New Castle.
The new facility will be located next to AMG Titanium’s facility and will have an annual capacity of up to 6,500 tons. In addition, it will be the only chrome metal production facility in operation within the United States.
The United States government has classified chrome metal as a critical material because of a lack of U.S. production and its importance in various industrial alloys.
“This is great news for our commonwealth,” U.S. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said on X. “More jobs for Pennsylvanians. Sets us up for success in renewable energy development.”
The New Castle facility is expected to be operational during the first quarter of 2026.
AMG Critical Materials operates production facilities in nine countries, has sales and customer service offices in Japan, and employs approximately 3,600 people. In the United Kingdom, AMG Chrome is a major chrome metal producer. AMG’s Lithium segment covers the lithium value chain. AMG’s Vanadium segment is the world’s market leader in recycling vanadium from oil refining residues. AMG’s Technologies segment provides advanced metallurgy and equipment engineering.
