Allegheny College alumnus Philip L. St. Moritz recently donated $35 million to the college, the largest donation in the college’s more than 210 year history.

“We are honored and humbled that such an accomplished alumnus, through his legacy, would establish a Center to ensure that Allegheny College serves as a leader at the intersection of the liberal arts and emerging technologies equipping students for careers of the future,” Ron Cole, Allegheny College president, said. “I believe Phil would be proud that we are enlivening Reis Hall, one of the most iconic buildings at the center of Allegheny College’s campus, in his name.”

The college will use the funding to establish The Phil St. Moritz Center for Innovation at Reis Hall. The center will house the Department of Computer and Information Science, offering programs in informatics, robotics, software engineering, ethics, and artificial intelligence; and the Allegheny Lab for Innovation and Creativity that allows students and faculty to design and build prototypes of products, scientific instruments, smart devices, robots, video games, virtual environments, artistic projects, and more.

St. Moritz graduated 1961 with a bachelor of science in economics. He is founder of the St. Moritz Group and owns Bill’s Marine Service in Maryland.
