Pittsburgh-based Wabtec Corp., a provider of equipment, systems, digital solutions and value-added services for the freight and transit rail industries, recently received approval to be a RailPulse Certified Telematics Vendor.

The RailPulse Certified Telematics Vendor Program ensures that all telematic equipment installed on railcars meets industry standards for safety, performance, mechanical robustness, data quality, and ongoing support.

“Telematics is an emerging technology in the rail industry, a market that currently lacks real-time visibility over a vast majority of its railcars worldwide,” Evan Sevel, Wabtec vice president of growth and innovation, said. “With the RailPulse certification, Wabtec’s telematics platform will help advance the adoption of railcar tracking technology across the rail sector and drive meaningful business outcomes for our customers.”

RailPulse is a coalition that established the rail industry’s universal standards for telematics and has rigorous requirements for obtaining the certification.

Wabtec’s telematics solutions passed extensive testing, and exceeded the requirements for uptime and data accuracy. The sensors used in the technology captures information regarding a customer’s railcar fleet and turns the information into data that improves operational efficiency and safety.

Obtaining certification is part of the company’s commitment to improve the safety and productivity of rail shipments through its advanced railcar telematics platform.
