Allentown-based PPL Electric Utilities recently completed the sale of the approximately 450,000-square-foot 2 North Ninth Street Tower Building and office complex in downtown Allentown to Scranton-based developer D&D Realty Group for $9 million.
PPL Corp., PPL Electric Utilities’ parent company, will continue to maintain a presence in the city. Its headquarters has moved to Two City Center in downtown Allentown.
D&D Realty Group completes redevelopment projects such as converting properties into mixed-used commercial and residential units. Amenities for those mixed-used properties include grocery stores, restaurants, and storage units. D&D Realty Group’s plan for the building includes apartments, mixed-use commercial spaces, and other amenities.
PPL last month announced the retirement of Francis Sullivan, PPL Corp. chief operating officer and executive vice president. Sullivan will retire April 4 and PPL will eliminate the position of COO. Sullivan’s responsibilities will be divided between David Bonenberger, who will become executive vice president and chief operating officer-utilities, and Lonnie Bellar, who will become executive vice president of engineering, construction and generation.
PPL Corp. and its family of companies provides power to more than 3.5 million customers in the United States, including 1.5 million homes and businesses in eastern and central Pennsylvania. The company employs more than 6,500 people nationwide.
