Malvern-based PG purchases Belgian specialty silicate business

Malvern-based PQ, a silicates, silicas and derivative products producer, recently completed its purchase of Belgium-based Sibelco Group’s specialty silicate business that operates at the Lödöse plant in Sweden.

“PQ is pleased to complete this transaction with Sibelco and we are excited to begin offering our products and service to new customers in the region,” Al Beninati, PQ CEO, said. “Our robust European network and expertise in specialty silicates will enable our new customers to achieve growth across the Nordics.”

Silicates and silicas are used in a wide variety of industries to manufacture common products such as beer, biofuels, decorative paints, green cement, green tires and toothpaste.

PQ employs approximately 1,500 people at 30 facilities in 13 countries and serves more than 900 customers worldwide. It serves the construction and drilling, food and beverage, nutrition, paints and coatings, personal care, purification, and silica and chemical manufacturing end markets.

Sibelco mines, processes and sells specialty industrial minerals, and recycles glass. It employs approximately 5,000 people and operates production facilities in more than 30 countries. It is a large miner of clays, feldspathics, olivine, silica and high purity quartz and serves the ceramics, coatings, construction, glass, polymers, water purification and others industries.
