Gregory E. Deavens began a two-year term as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia at its annual meeting on Oct. 29.
“We are at a critical inflection point that we must use as a catalyst to propel us into a brighter future,” Deavens said at the meeting. “It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am excited to work side by side with all of you.”
During his remarks, Deavens shared his vision to position Greater Philadelphia as a global destination for business. He also spoke about how the area could be an inclusive growth leader.
He cited the region’s plans for 2026 that include hosting the Major League Baseball All-Star Game and the FIFA World Cup. The region also will welcome visitors for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
Deavens, Independence Blue Cross president, joined the chamber’s board and executive committee in 2021. He succeeds Mike Innocenzo, Exelon executive vice president and COO.
Also during his remarks, Deavens praised Innocenzo and Chellie Cameron, chamber president and CEO.
“Her committed leadership is just what we need to navigate the challenges that we face and the opportunities we seek to capitalize on,” Deavens said of Cameron.
