Philadelphia Works (PhilaWorks), Philadelphia’s Workforce Development Board, recently announced an initiative designed to strengthen the city’s infrastructure labor market by developing talent pipelines for critical infrastructure sectors.
The emphasis will be on renewable energy and transportation. The initiative will work with partners to create seamless career pathways in high-demand sectors, and ensure training programs meet industry standards. Partners include city, PECO, and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.
The initiative also will streamline existing programs.
Philadelphia Works will use case management, mentorship, supportive services, and other worker-centered strategies to help participants on their career paths in the targeted occupations.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Building Pathways to Infrastructure Jobs Grant Program awarded PhilaWorks a $1.99 million grant to support the effort.
“This award represents a critical reinforcement in our workforce development strategy, complementing the achievements of the Good Jobs Challenge and our recent designation as a White House Workforce Hub,” H. Patrick Clancy, Philadelphia Works president and CEO, said. “Together, these investments create a robust framework for sustainable growth across Philadelphia and Southeast Pennsylvania. Our focus extends beyond immediate job placement; we’re cultivating career pathways that support our city’s infrastructure and fuel long-term economic prosperity.”
The initiative will leverage the expertise of programs like Women in Nontraditional Careers.
