The Pennsylvania Coal Alliance recently announced the winners of its annual mine safety and reclamation awards.
The Keystone Mine Safety Awards recognize outstanding safety records at mine sites. They are awarded to manufacturers, and service providers and producers. Awards are determined by non-fatal loss rates based on Mine Safety Health Administration or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration data.
Reclamation awards honor the outstanding reclamation of coal mine sites completed by the alliance’s member companies. Awards are determined by the number of acres mined, post-mining land use, number of acres previously affected by abandoned mine lands, and scores from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
The safety winners are Musser Engineering, small field service provider; JENNCHEM, large field service provider; Jennmar Conveyors, large manufacturer; Junior Coal Contracting, small surface mine; Heritage Coal & Natural Resources, large surface mine; Rosebud Mining Co., small continuous mine; and Rosebud Mining Co., large continuous mine.
Reclamation award winners are Robindale Energy Services, small project (under 25 acres); RoxCoal, mid-size project (25-75 acres); Consol Pennsylvania Coal Co., longwall mine; and PBS Coals, best overall.
PBS Coals reclaimed the 134-acre Tipple Mine in Somerset County and planted crops and grasses that provide habitat for wildlife and aid farmers.
