The Pennsylvania Multimodal Transportation Fund recently awarded Cool Valley Development a $1 million grant for improvements to Morganza and McMurray roads in Washington County.

Cool Valley Development is a proposed 911-acre, mixed-use development in Cecil Township along Interstate 79.

T&R Properties, a property management and real estate development firm, owns and develops the site. The firm plans to build offices, warehouses, residences, and other amenities, building off the success of the nearby Southpointe Development.

“It has been almost 15 years since the Cool Valley project was initially proposed, but lack of sufficient funding for traffic improvements continually hindered progress,” Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-Greene/Washington) said. “This grant will help to keep things moving while making accommodations to account for the inevitable increase in traffic.”

The state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund provides financial assistance to businesses, councils of governments, economic development organizations, municipalities, ports and rail freight entities, and public transportation agencies.

Funding can be used for the connectivity of transportation assets, lighting, pedestrian safety, sidewalk enhancement, streetscape, transit-oriented development, and the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities.

Applications are accepted March 1 to July 31 annually and are considered at the November Commonwealth Financing Authority board meeting.
