Lackawanna College and Peirce College recently announced their intent to merge.
After the merger is completed, they will operate as a single institution under the Lackawanna College name.
The combine institution will offer Lackawanna’s degrees, certificates and innovative learning experiences with Peirce’s career-focused, flexible academic programs and student services.
The merger will allow Lackawanna to expand its geographic and programmatic presence to serve students in eight locations and online.
“At Lackawanna, we’ve always believed in harnessing the power of likeminded partners, and both Lackawanna and Peirce have long been committed to providing accessible, affordable, and high-quality education to individuals from all walks of life, regardless of their background or circumstances,” Dr. Jill Murray, Lackawanna College president, said.
“By joining forces with Lackawanna College, we will leverage our core competencies and expand programs to serve more students in the Philadelphia region, the Scranton region and beyond,” Dr. Mary Ellen Caro, Peirce College president and CEO, said.
Founded in 1894, Lackawanna College is a private, non-profit institution located in Scranton. It has six other locations in northeastern and central Pennsylvania.
Founded in 1865, Peirce College is dedicated to offering adults career-focused programs. It is located in Philadelphia.
The merger is pending regulatory approval from accrediting and government agencies.
