Pittsburgh-based PPG recently launched PPG PRIMERON Optimal zinc epoxy powder primer, part of the company’s PPG Primeron powder primer series designed to provide high corrosion resistance.
“Corrosion protection is a decisive factor in the durability of a part and one of the most significant challenges for the coating industry,” Paul Bradley, PPG product development manager for Industrial Coatings, said. “PPG Primeron Optimal primer offers improved adhesion and corrosion resistance, even in coastal environments, and has a better overall balance of properties than traditional zinc-rich primers.”
The product is formulated for use in high humidity and aggressive environments, and to be less dense and easier to apply than standard zinc-rich primers.
It surpassed 10,000 hours of salt spray performance on blasted steel during lab testing.
PPG Primeron Optimal is engineered for use on steel, hot-dip galvanized steel, metallized steel and aluminum. It is manufactured without solvents that release volatile organic compounds.
The other PPG Primeron powder primer series products are PPG Primeron Auto, layered production for automotive and specialty markets; PPG Primeron Edge, corrosion protection for substrates with sharp edges; PPG Primeron Legacy, a zinc-rich primer offering corrosion protection, and PPG Primeron Versa, a primer offering strong corrosion protection for a wide range of substrates.
