The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently awarded Pennsylvania a $396 million Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) to help manufacturers fund industrial decarbonization projects.

The grant is funded through the federal Inflation Reduction Act and will be applied to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Reducing Industrial Sector Emissions in Pennsylvania (RISE PA) initiative.

RISE PA supports industrial and manufacturing projects on a tiered basis that reduce carbon emissions and improve the health, safety, and economies of surrounding communities. Projects include low-emission steel production.

“Nobody is more equipped to lead the next generation of industry and manufacturing than Pennsylvanians,” U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) said. “This grant is a game-changing investment that will support greenhouse gas-reducing projects, create good jobs, and bolster economies across the commonwealth. I will keep fighting for investments that secure the commonwealth as our nation’s industrial backbone.”

By 2050, RISE PA is expected to reduce an estimated 9.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent and add tens of billions of dollars to the state economy. Casey urged EPA Administrator Michael Regan to fund the initiative.

The Inflation Reduction Act includes tax credits for individuals and companies manufacturing or deploying clean energy technologies.
