Westinghouse releases 2023 Sustainability Report

Cranberry Township-based Westinghouse Electric Co., a nuclear and clean power technologies and services company, recently released its 2023 Sustainability Report.

The report includes updates on the company’s efforts to integrate sustainability throughout its business, and details sustainability initiatives and achievements in environmental conservation, deploying clean energy technology, and diversity, equity and inclusion, safety and corporate governance.

“Westinghouse is proud to play a leading role in the global effort to combat climate change and deliver a carbon-free future,” Patrick Fragman, Westinghouse president and CEO, said. “We continue to take concrete steps to minimize our own carbon footprint and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. We are also delivering innovative solutions across the nuclear energy life cycle that benefit our customers, communities and partners.”

Report highlights include:

The company has achieved a 16.7 percent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions since 2019.

The company deployed its first on-site solar installation in Nivelles, Belgium, and also procured 22 percent of its electricity from clean energy sources.

The company added 1,150 megawatts of carbon-free electricity to the U.S. grid with the Vogtle 3, the first AP1000 reactor entered into commercial operation in the United States. The unit powers 500,000 homes in Georgia.

The company joined the Net Zero Nuclear Pledge.
