French-based Air Liquide, a gas, technology and services provider for industry and healthcare, recently built two biomethane production units for the treatment of dairy farm waste.
One unit is located in Center Township, while the other is located in Michigan.
“With these two new biomethane production units, Air Liquide is reinforcing its presence in the U.S. RNG (renewable natural gas) production market,” Armelle Levieux, of Air Liquide vice president of innovation and executive committee member, said. “These investments in the U.S. are in line with the priorities of our strategic plan ADVANCE for 2025, which inseparably links growth and a sustainable future. Biomethane is part of the portfolio of solutions developed by Air Liquide to support the decarbonization of its customers in the industry and transport sectors.”
The production units will produce biogas from manure feedstock in an anaerobic digester, transforming the biogas into RNG that will be injected into the natural gas grid and returned to the farms for their needs. Total production capacity is expected to be 74 gigawatt hour.
Air Liquide operates in 72 countries and has 26 biomethane operational production units worldwide with a yearly production capacity of approximately 1.8 terawatt-hour.
The company employs 67,800 people and has more than 4 million customers.
