The U.S. Department of Labor recently recognized Pennsylvania College of Technology as a Registered Apprenticeship Program Sponsor.
Registered Apprenticeship Programs encourage more employers to participate which, in turn, provides them with access to more potential employees trained for entry-level to management positions. Registered Apprenticeships are industry vetted and approved, providing individuals with paid work experience, progressive wage increases, and classroom instruction.
These are nationally recognized credentials.
The National Program Standards Registration allows the college to register apprentices employed by companies in other states.
“Attaining national Registered Apprenticeship status is a significant milestone that underscores Pennsylvania College of Technology’s leadership in applied technology education,” Michael J. Reed, Penn College president, said. “This prestigious national recognition validates the exceptional quality of our apprenticeship programs and our institution’s role in developing the highly skilled workforce manufacturers need to drive innovation and remain competitive globally. We are proud to expand access to these upskilling opportunities to individuals and employers, and foster growth in jobs with family-supporting wages.”
Apprentices completing a registered apprenticeship receive a national credential in their field that recognizes them as journey workers.
Companies use apprenticeships to help train existing workers with skill gaps. Typical requirements include 144 hours of instruction and 2,000 hours of on-the-job training.
