Pittsburgh-based Kennametal, a materials science, tooling and wear-resistant solutions provider, recently named Sanjay Chowbey, the company’s vice president, as the next president and CEO, effective June 1.

He replaces Christopher Rossi who will retire on May 31.

“I am honored and excited to serve as the next CEO of Kennametal,” Chowbey said. “We have a proud 86-year legacy of helping customers make products that touch everyday life and enable people to drive, fly, power and build. We have extraordinary employees who are focused on serving stakeholders around the world and working to do things better than we did the day before. I look forward to accelerating our transformational journey to create shareholder value through growth, margin expansion and a balanced capital allocation strategy.”

Chowbey joined Kennametal in 2021 as Kennametal vice president and the Metal Cutting segment’s president.

Prior to joining Kennametal, Chowbey held president and general manager roles with various industrial companies, more recently as president of Flowserve’s Services & Solutions business.

Chowbey will join the board of directors after Rossi’s retirement.

The company will consider both internal and external candidates when finding a successor for Chowbey as Metal Cutting president. He will continue in this role until he becomes CEO.
