Prysmian Group, an energy and telecommunications cable company, is investing $22.5 million to expand its Williamsport facility.
Expansion will allow the company to meet the power transmission and distribution market, which is changing and growing, in the United States. It will double the manufacturing capacity of advanced transmission conductors with the company’s E3X technology. It also will increase the amount of power that can be moved.
The existing building will receive a 51,000-square-foot addition in manufacturing space. Work also includes adding a retention pond to the property.
The project is expected to create at least 27 new jobs in Lycoming County and retain 407 positions statewide.
State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Bradford County) visited the facility earlier this month to discuss the expansion.
“Not only will these investments bring good-paying jobs to the area and boost the local economy, but they are also a critical component for ensuring the reliability and resilience of the U.S. power grid,” Yaw said. “Right here in Williamsport, Prysmian is helping to connect Pennsylvania to the world.”
The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development recently awarded the company a $135,000 Pennsylvania First grant. The company also received funding from the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority and Williamsport.
Prysmian operates 28 manufacturing plants throughout North America.
