PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll recently attended an event celebrating Frontier Airlines expanding service out of Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT).

“I’m proud to be here on behalf of the Shapiro Administration to celebrate the expansion of service at Pittsburgh International Airport,” Carroll said. “Our airports are gateways to local economies, and the Pittsburgh International Airport is critical to this region. This additional service will not only give travelers more options when flying out of Pittsburgh, but will help support good, life-sustaining jobs as well as the regional economy.”

Service will begin in May and will increase Frontier’s presence in Pittsburgh by 600 percent.

Beginning on May 16, service will be available from PIT to Philadelphia International Airport twice daily and from PIT to Dallas-Fort Worth three times a week.

Beginning on May 17, service will be available from PIT to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport four times a week and from PIT to Raleigh-Durham International Airport four times a week.

The aviation industry employs more than 226,000 people and has an economic impact of more than $34 billion annually in Pennsylvania, according to a 2019 study.

Frontier’s expansion is forecasted to bring $72 million in economic impact to the Pittsburgh region.
