Maid-Rite Specialty Foods, Inc., a ready-to-heat meals manufacturer, plans to expand its Dunmore manufacturing operation.
The first phase of the expansion project recently began construction and will convert warehouse space for food production. A second phase will build additional cold storage.
In 2021, Maid-Rite lost a nearby processing facility to fire. The project will recover most of the capacity lost. It will retain 301 existing positions and create 75 positions over the next three years.
“Maid-Rite appreciates the Commonwealth’s support for the expansion of our primary facility,” Michael Bernstein, Maid-Rite’s president, said. “We have maintained operations in Pennsylvania since our inception and this only helps to solidify the partnership with the state and the citizens of our local community. We look forward to furthering this partnership in the future.”
Maid-Rite’s parent company, Premium Brands Holding Corp., will invest $40 million. The Department of Community and Economic Development awarded Maid-Rite a $451,000 Pennsylvania First Program grant that includes a $150,000 WEDnetPA workforce development grant to train new workers and upgrade the skills of current employees.
The Governor’s Action Team coordinated the project.
Maid-Rite serves more than 50 million people within 300 miles of its Dunmore headquarters through multiple manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution facilities in Northeast Pennsylvania.
