Philadelphia tech hub receives Economic Development Administration designation

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) recently announced that the Greater Philadelphia Region Precision Medicine Tech Hub has been designated as a Tech Hub.

This is the first phase of the  Tech Hubs program. Tech Hubs are located throughout the United States and Puerto Rico and focus on a variety of industries. Designation is an endorsement of a region’s plans to create jobs in technological industries, strengthen the nation’s competitiveness, strengthen a capacity to manufacture, commercialize, and deploy technology, and protect national security.

“The acknowledgement of the Greater Philadelphia Region Precision Medicine Tech Hub proposal, along with the recent announcement regarding the Hydrogen Hub status and Gov. (Josh) Shapiro’s ongoing support for innovation, validates what we in the innovation community here in our region have felt for a while: the opportunity that innovation can yield for both diverse regional impact and global progress is real, and is happening right now,” Scott Nissenbaum, Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania CEO, said.

The hub is a coordinated effort of more than 50 organizations throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, designed to accelerate the Greater Philadelphia region’s global competitiveness and the delivery of new Precision Medicine technology products, tools, and interventions.

It also develops community-conscious work force solutions.
