The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recently reviewed bids for the second construction contract of the Southern Section of the Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation Project (CSVT).
The project will connect Routes 11/15 north of Selinsgrove to Route 15 south of Winfield, and includes an interchange/connector to Routes 11/15 and Route 61 in Shamokin Dam.
“The CSVT is one of the most ambitious projects PennDOT has ever undertaken, one that has been decades in the making,” PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said. “When this project is complete, trucks and other through traffic will be moved off the local networks and mobility in the region will be improved not only for cars and trucks, but for pedestrians and cyclists as well.”
The contract included nine new bridges and four noise walls. Seven bridges will carry the CSVT highway over local roads while two bridges will carry the Cortland Drive Connector over the Route 61 Connector and the Route 61 Connector over ramps connecting to Routes 11/15.
Noise walls will be built in Monroe Township and in Shamokin Dam Borough.
Walsh Construction Company II from Chicago had the lowest bid at $106.4 million. Two other bids were submitted.
Work is expected to begin early next year and be completed by early 2026.
