Westinghouse Electric Co. recently released its first sustainability report.
The report highlights the company’s efforts to protect the environment, deliver clean energy technology globally, institute sustainability, and invest in employees and communities across the world. It includes key initiatives and achievements as well as the steps toward diversity, equity and inclusion, safety, and corporate governance.
The company began taking significant actions toward sustainable last year.
“Westinghouse has always been part of the solution for achieving a carbon-free future across the world,” Patrick Fragman, Westinghouse president and CEO, said. “Our leading clean energy technology supports our customers’ efforts to achieve net-zero commitments utilizing clean, safe and reliable nuclear power. Our mission is upheld by our values and implemented by our talented and diverse colleagues across the world.”
Report highlights include:
Achieving a 27 percent decrease in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2019, the baseline year.
Powering 25 percent of its U.S. clean energy production with nuclear fuel technology.
The company’s AP1000 reactor, AP300 small modular reactor, eVinci microreactor, Generation IV lead fast reactor, and Pumped-Thermal Energy Storage can be used by customers to create a carbon-free system that provides cost-effective electricity, district and process heat, and water desalination.
