A total of 104 students about to graduate from Lehigh Valley area career and technical schools recently participated in SkillsUSA Council District 11’s annual Signing Day event at DeSales University.
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit education association serving middle school, high school, and college/postsecondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations. The Lehigh Valley’s SkillsUSA Council offers the benefits of the national organization, professional development conferences, and interest clubs.
Signing Day is modeled after events where high school athletes sign with colleges. The students signed with 41 area businesses and 24 colleges and universities and enlisted in the Army, Marine Corps., and National Guard.
“Our students will be heading off to careers in biomedical technology, engineering, business management, automotive, manufacturing, just to name a few,” SkillsUSA Council Executive Director Andy Hammer said. “Local employers constantly tell us what they need, and they are requiring a steady flow of future talent to maintain their operations. These students are ready to take on that challenge.”
Students were from Lehigh Career & Technical Institute, Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School, Upper Bucks County Technical School, Monroe Career and Technical Institute, and Career Institute of Technology.
Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. was the title sponsor.
