EMD Electronics, a semiconductor and electronics manufacturer, plans to construct a $300 million, 96,500-square-foot facility in Schuylkill County for specialty gases manufacturing.

The new facility will double the production capacity of tungsten hexafluoride and nitrogen trifluoride. Both are components used in semiconductor manufacturing.

The project is expected to create 68 jobs and retain 289 full-time positions in the Schuylkill County location over the next five years. An additional 120 jobs will be created during construction.

“Our commitment to level up our business in Schuylkill County bodes well for the community and its global impact on the semiconductor industry,” Jeff White, EMD Electronics president, said. “We appreciate the efforts on the part of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to recognize the value of our growth plans and work with us to make this expansion possible.”

The Department of Community and Economic Development submitted a funding proposal for a $1.06 million Pennsylvania First grant and a $122,000 work force development grant to train workers.

EMD Electronics is one of the 10 largest manufacturing employers in Schuylkill County. It manufactures delivery equipment for the semiconductor and electronics display industries, including ultra-thin dielectric and metal precursors of film, formulated cleans and etching products, and chemical-mechanical planarization slurries.
