Penn State offering three events to address food safety

Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Penn State Extension will host three events focused on emergency preparedness as part of a collaborative statewide effort to support the dairy industry.

Webinars will be offered April 11 and May 9, focusing on supporting small and medium dairy foods processors and value-added dairy entrepreneurs. The April webinar will focus on environmental monitoring in dairy processing facilities and best practices for sanitation, cleaning, and biological hazards. The May webinar will focus on tools for communicating and responding to a food safety crisis.

The Dairy Industry Crisis Readiness Drill Training workshop will be held May 11-12. The workshop will allow participants will practice their crisis preparedness skills. It will also feature lectures and will cover media interviews, social media, and crisis leadership.

A dairy crisis drill will occur in conjunction with the 2023 Pennsylvania Association for Food Protection Conference will be held May 10-11. The drill will cover a range of topics ensuring the safety of food products. It is designed for food transportation employees, plant managers, lab managers, small processors and regulatory personnel, and sanitarians.

Participants can attend either the full conference or only the post-conference crisis drill.
