U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic Bijan Sabet recently welcomed representatives from 55 Czech Republic companies to Supplier Day 2023, an event Westinghouse Electric Co. and Bechtel partially organized.

“Czech industry has a vital role to play in the deployment of nuclear technology here,” Petr Brzezina, Westinghouse president for the Czech Republic, said. “I would like to thank the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Czech Republic, Czech Power Industry Association, and TUV Nord for their partnership on this Symposium, emphasizing the importance of this project for the future of Czech suppliers.”

In November, Westinghouse and Bechtel submitted a bid to support the Czech Republic’s planned expansion of its nuclear power fleet with the AP1000 reactor. According to the bid, the companies would build an AP1000 unit at the Dukovany nuclear site with the potential for a second unit as well as two units at the Temelin site.

Westinghouse and Bechtel plan to engage with the Czech supply base to procure equipment and construct the reactors.

Cranberry Township-based Westinghouse provides nuclear and clean power technologies.

Bechtel serves the infrastructure, nuclear, security and environmental, energy, and mining and metals markets. It is also an engineering, construction, and project management partner to industry and government.
