Pittsburg-based Ansys, an engineering simulation software company, recently purchased the Rocky DEM (discrete element method) tool from Engineering Simulation and Scientific Software, a long-term Ansys channel partner.
Rocky is a software package that simulates the dynamic flow behavior of discrete solids and particle-laden free-surface flows in multiple industries. It is used to address sustainability concerns, improve product quality, increase product uniformity, meet resource management, reduce waste, and predict the performance and durability of equipment during operation. In addition, it can be used in various applications that involve discrete solids of all shapes and sizes.
The purchase gives Ansys customers access to powerful high-fidelity particle modeling integrated with other Ansys solutions.
“Rocky’s unique approach to discrete particle modeling empowers our customers to solve a wide variety of problems across virtually all industries,” Shane Emswiler, Ansys senior vice president of products, said. “Fully integrating Rocky into Ansys’ portfolio and welcoming its distinguished experts to our team builds upon our demonstrated success and enables Ansys to provide an even more efficient and powerful solution for our customers. We are delighted to welcome Rocky into the Ansys family.”
In 2021, Ansys and Engineering Simulation and Scientific Software announced a joint particle modeling workflow.
