A coalition of energy companies, climate advocates, and labor groups, including the Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce, recently launched the Partnership to Address Global Emissions (PAGE).
PAGE will advocate for U.S. policies that enable the development of infrastructure needed to increase the production and export of liquefied natural gas that will replace foreign coal and lower greenhouse gas emissions. It also will advocate for policies that lower energy costs, bolster energy security, strengthen the economy, and protect the climate.
PAGE has four core objectives. It aims to increase energy supplies to reduce inflationary costs that drive up energy prices; replace foreign coal with U.S. natural gas; address the energy security needs of U.S. allies by providing new, cleaner energy sources; and help countries meet their emissions reduction targets under the Paris Agreement.
Pennsylvania’s “natural gas can lead the next energy chapter for America, our allies, and the world,” the chamber said on Twitter.
More than 200 U.S. coal plants closed in the past 15 years as the United States switched from electricity produced by coal to electricity produced by natural gas, which generates considerably fewer carbon dioxide emissions.
Foreign coal demand is rising due to Russia’s war against Ukraine and skyrocketing energy prices.
