Bedford County receives $200,000 for manufacturing career awareness programs

Pennsylvania’s Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career Program (MTTC) recently awarded the Bedford County Technical Center (BCTC) a $200,000 grant to help create awareness for students about rewarding local careers in the manufacturing industry.

“We are excited about the opportunities the Manufacturing Training to Career grant will provide the students, educators, and employers in Bedford County,” Michael O’Dellick, BCTC administrative director, said. “The grant will serve a dual purpose in the county-focused student engagement in local manufacturing and community awareness.”

BCTC will use the funding for student and community campaigns focused on manufacturing careers.

A student video contest called “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” will be implemented during the first year of the program in six Bedford County schools, and in four schools throughout Blair, Fulton and Huntingdon counties during the second year.

A community campaign will promote high-tech career opportunities within regional manufacturing companies and will focus on youth, recent high school graduates and underserved populations.

BCTC is a shared-time career and technical school serving the Bedford and Everett school districts. In addition, the Hope for Hyndman charter school and the Tussey Mountain, Northern Bedford, and Chestnut Ridge school districts send students to the school on a paid tuition basis.

The MTTC program has invested more than $17.8 million.
