Saint-Gobain purchases Canadian building materials manufacturer

French company Saint-Gobain, a manufacturer and distributor of construction and industrial materials and services, recently completed the purchase of Kaycan, a manufacturer and distributor of exterior building materials in Canada and the United States.

The purchase allows Saint-Gobain to expand its vinyl offering in the United States with complementary solutions in aluminum and engineered wood and become a top siding company in Canada.

Kaycan becomes part of the local North American construction business within Saint-Gobain’s Americas Region. The region also includes Malvern-based CertainTeed, a North American brand of exterior and interior building products.

Kaycan is in the process of divesting its U.S. distribution business, and the deal is expected to close during the third quarter.

Saint-Gobain has made several other North American investments over the past year.

In December, it announced plans to purchase GCP Applied Technologies, a construction chemicals manufacturer, for $2.3 billion.

In February, it invested $32 million in its CertainTeed California insulation manufacturing plant.

In April, Saint-Gobain announced plans to double CertainTeed’s Architectural manufacturing site in Northeast Ohio by moving to Strongsville and announced a $118 million expansion of CertainTeed’s roofing plant in North Carolina.

Saint-Gobain also announced a $100 million expansion of CertainTeed’s Georgia roofing facility in May.

Saint-Gobain has 167,000 employees in 76 countries.
