Pittsburgh-based PPG recently announced it is increasing manufacturing output at its Huntsville, Ala., and Sylmar, Calif. manufacturing facilities to meet customer demand for commercial aerospace aftermarket products.

This is expected to increase employment at the facilities by up to 20 percent.

“We’ve benefited from year-over-year improvements in the market,” Dan Korte, PPG global vice president of aerospace, said. “As travelers continue returning to the skies, we are focused on meeting the immediate and longer-term needs of our customers.”

PPG’s global aerospace business offers packaging and application systems, adhesives, sealants, transparent armor, transparencies, coatings, chemical management, and other services.

The company also announced it is investing in its European facilities.

PPG is spending $17 million to build an application support center in Toulouse, France. It is expected to begin operations during the fourth quarter of 2023.

The Shildon, U.K., aerospace plant is commissioning an automatic filling machine to increase the production of ready-to-use cartridge-based systems that store, mix and ease the application of aerospace sealants.

PPG operates in more than 75 countries and works with customers in construction, consumer products, industrial and transportation markets, and aftermarkets. In 2021, it reported net sales of $16.8 billion.

The company has been in business for nearly 140 years.
