The Pennsylvania Insurance Department and a working group of stakeholder partners will host the Pennsylvania NextGen Insurance Academy Aug. 1-4 in Harrisburg.

The academy is an interactive workshop for college students to provide students with a comprehensive overview of insurance and help them establish career paths.

Insurance professionals from all sectors of the industry will present the curriculum. Classes include jobs with the state, insurance careers, and observing a controlled car burn to examine ways to identify potential fraud.

In addition, students will receive a capitol tour and be offered a resume workshop and a job fair. More than a dozen employers are expected to attend the job fair.

Students will earn a Pennsylvania NextGen Insurance Academy Certificate upon completion of the program.

“The NextGen Insurance Academy is a unique opportunity to get hands-on with the various careers within the industry, in fields such as actuarial science, risk management, finance, accounting, public policy, and more,” Michael Humphreys, Pennsylvania Acting Insurance Commissioner, said. “These careers are rewarding and vital to helping individuals and families find financial security for their health, homes, businesses, and vehicles.”

The academy is free, but the number of participants is limited. Registration is required.
