Aramark signs Cool Food Pledge

Aramark, the largest U.S.-based food service provider, recently signed the World Resources Institute’s (WRI) Cool Food Pledge, becoming the first American contract catering company to do so.

WRI developed a peer-reviewed calculator and methodology for measuring the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of an organization’s food purchases.

Aramark committed to reducing the GHG emissions associated with the food it serves in the United States by 25 percent by 2030. This supports the company’s sustainability plan and its path to net zero emissions.

“Partnering with WRI on the Cool Food Pledge will help us slash our food-related greenhouse gas emissions while substantially expanding the availability of Cool Food Meals,” Alan Horowitz, Aramark vice president of sustainability, said. “This will make it easier for more of our guests to make climate-friendly and plant-forward meal choices, which according to our research, is what they increasingly want.”

Aramark also announced it will expand the availability of Cool Food Meals to nearly 1,500 locations in the United States. The meals will be available nationwide in January to all higher education, workplace experience, and healthcare+ accounts.

The company adopted WRI’s Cool Food Meals badge on its menus this spring during a 10 university pilot program.

Aramark provides services to customers in 19 countries.
