Alcoa Corp. is supplying Hellenic Cables S.A., one of Europe’s largest cable producers, with low-carbon EcoLum aluminum.
The EcoLum brand is part of Alcoa’s Sustana low-carbon products, with a carbon footprint approximately 3.5 times better than the industry average. It is produced using hydroelectric-powered aluminum smelters. EcoLum aluminum has no more than 4 metric tons of CO2e emissions for every ton of metal produced, including direct and indirect emissions (scope 1 and scope 2) across the entire production chain, including bauxite mining and alumina refining.
By purchasing EcoLum aluminum, Hellenic Cables will be able to produce products that decrease their customers’ scope 3 emissions. The company manufactures power and telecom cables for various industries as well as submarine cables and compounds.

Aluminum is an alternative to copper in the areas of conductivity, mechanical properties, and durability.
Hellenic Cables operates five manufacturing plants in three countries. It is the cables segment of Cenergy Holdings, a Belgian holding company.
