Pennsylvania’s Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career Program (MTTC) recently awarded Millcreek Township School District $99,730 to expand its McDowell Senior High School manufacturing program.
By expanding the program, initially funded by a 2019 MTTC grant, the district will increase student participation, the number of students prepared for advanced manufacturing job opportunities, the number of manufacturers engaged, its production capacity, and other capabilities.
The district will continue efforts to recruit students, provide Occupational Safety and Health Administration safety training for new students entering the program, purchase an Epson DTG Printer to expand the Graphics Division, and add a part-time computer numerical control specialist.
For the 2021-2022 school year, 60 students are enrolled in the program and have manufactured 7,137 parts for seven manufacturing companies in the Erie area.
“Manufacturing has long had a key role in the commonwealth’s history,” Gov. Tom Wolf said. “This Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career funding will boost high school students’ interest in modern manufacturing career opportunities and ensure the future of this important industry in Pennsylvania.”
Launched in October 2017, the Manufacturing PA initiative has funded 62 projects and invested more than $14.2 million through the Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career Grant program.
Training-to-Career grants support projects that advance manufacturing, short-term work readiness, and job placement.
