Nexii Building Solutions, a Canadian green construction technology company, recently opened its first U.S. plant in Hazleton.
“We are thrilled that Nexii’s first unveiling in the United States is in Hazleton, a community that has proudly played an integral role in America’s manufacturing heritage,” Stephen Sidwell, Nexii Building Solutions CEO, said. “As we look to the future, and work with communities like Hazleton – transitioning away from industries like coal or steel – Nexii Hazleton will be a model of innovation, determination, and the future of sustainable construction.”
The 180,000-square-foot facility will manufacture sustainable building products made with Nexiite, an alternative to concrete with significantly lower embodied carbon. It is expected to produce up to 8 million square feet of Nexii panels annually, the company said, to serve customers in the Eastern United States.
The panels are used to retrofit existing buildings for clients seeking to mitigate the impacts of climate change and to construct industrial, residential and retail structures.
The facility employs more than 100, with additional jobs expected in the future.
Nexii owns and operates plants throughout North America. It also works with licensees, called Nexii Certified Manufacturers, to develop and operate plants across Canada and the United States.
